Last night we went to a friend’s house for a pizza party. But this wasn’t your ordinary pizza party by any means. This couple built an actual, real, authentic pizza oven in their back yard….
It takes two days to fire this thing up and get it hot enough. The white bricks are “fire” bricks and can withstand heat up to 1200+ degrees. Crazy. When we arrived the fire inside was burning at a nice 600 degrees. Just perfect for making pizza in less than 5 minutes!
Here’s a shot of the whole thing….
We had lots of different kinds of pizza….
And this Italian specialty called Farinata….
It’s made from garbanzo bean flour and it is super tasty!
Of course, we weren’t without wine….
And in addition to the pizza and farinata (as if that wasn’t enough), there was an entire pork shoulder that spent four and a half hours roasting in the pizza over prior to our arrival. Complete with potatoes and carrots….
And if all that wasn’t enough, there was a special pear vodka (only sold in Italy) to finish off the perfect evening.
All I can really say is this was a night that will not soon be forgotten. Great food, good wine and even better company. Now, if I only had a yard big enough to build one of those ovens….
