I recently visited one of my favorite wineries in Sonoma Valley: Gundlach Bundschu. Don’t worry if you can’t pronounce it. It takes a few tries (and some wine). Way back in 1858 Jacob Gundlach bought 400 acres in what is now the Southeast corner of Sonoma Valley. There is a good mix of flat land and hillside vineyards. Everything they do is estate grown. In other words, they grow all their grapes on the property and don’t purchase any.

They have two tasting options. One for $5 and one for $10. Both have great wines, it really just comes down to your wine preference.
In this glass is my favorite wine they produce, the Tempranillo. A Spanish varietal that works really well on this property. Locally, they’re known for this wine as well as the Gewürztraminer – another one of my favorites from there.
They were also bottling that day….
This window is right in the tasting room and you can watch all the action. Very cool.
All year long they offer tours of their caves and in the Spring and Summertime they have a Pinzgauer tour that takes you all over the 400 acre property. I highly recommend going to visit this historic winery just minutes from downtown Sonoma.
